ICV

ICV stands for intracerebroventricular. It refers to delivery into the ventricles, the fluid-filled spaces inside the brain that contain cerebrospinal fluid. Some therapies for neurological conditions are studied with delivery routes such as ICV or intrathecal dosing because many medicines do not easily cross from the bloodstream into the brain. ICV delivery is specialized and carries procedural risks that must be weighed carefully.

Why it matters

For neurodevelopmental and neurological rare diseases, how a therapy reaches the brain can be as important as the therapy itself. Families may hear ICV discussed in relation to delivery, dose, risk, and trial design.
